Level A - Grade Levels 2-3
Passages include fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Students
practice reading comprehension skills including deduction,
inference, deciphering between fact and opinion, and
recognizing point of view and writing purpose. Students
also are given instruction and practice in using reference
materials; using correct grammar, punctuation, vocabulary,
and spelling; finding reading cues; targeting keywords;
and organizing their own writing.
Level B—Reading Comprehension - Grade Levels 3-4
Students read a fiction or a nonfiction text and then answer
reading comprehension questions. Students are also provided
with text-related writing prompt.
Level C - Grade Level 4
Introduces the basics of writing nonfiction, writing fiction,
and reading comprehension. Also includes the fundamentals
of grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary,
and handwriting. Writing tasks include both long and
short assignments in such genres as persuasive (argumentative),
narrative (science fiction, myths, adventure, modern,
traditional stories), and expository (non-chronological
report). Reading tasks include brief passages from
classic works of fiction, modern fiction, poetry, and science.
Level D - Grade Level 5
Nonfiction writing; practicing active and passive writing;
structuring a balanced argument; narrative writing, particularly
focusing on characters’ dialogue, thoughts, and
description in the genres of first-person writing, historical
tales, and flashback. Reading comprehension exercises
ask students to deduce, infer, evaluate. Spelling and
punctuation. Parts of speech, alliteration, simile and
metaphor and personification.
Level E - Grade Levels 6-8
This workbook is broken into two parts: Instruction and
Application. In the Instruction portion, students will
review and practice such topics as grammar (punctuation,
paragraphs, active/passive voice, etc.); reading comprehension;
writing nonfiction (narratives, persuasion, balanced
arguments, etc.); and writing fiction (basic story format;
characters, dialogue, etc.). In Application, students
will utilize their knowledge to complete grammar exercises,
read and answer questions relating to reading comprehension
passages, and write nonfiction and fiction compositions.
